Hi, there, my name is Ray Molloy.
My own journey began in the summer of 1986 when I started training in Kenpo Karate under the instruction of Mr Roy MacDonald, who is presently an ninth degree black belt (master of the arts) and the highest ranking Kenpo black belt in Europe.
My Martial Art Journey
I attained my 1st degree black belt (junior instructor) in Amsterdam on 21st May 199. I tested for my second degree black belt, (associate instructor), in Ireland on 14th May 1999. For my third degree black belt, (head instructor), I went t in Portugal to receive it on 16th May 2001. Finally, I was awarded my fourth degree senior instructor in Jersey on 7th October 2017.
I have travelled through Europe and America to train with various instructors to further my understanding of the martial arts.
Some of the other instructors that have had a great influence on me over the years are Roy mac Donald, Bernie Drakes, Skip Handcock, Giblet Claes, .Raymond Reid and Steve Renouf
Since 1999 I have been traveling to Belgium three or four times a year, to train with my good friend and head instructor of the Universal Self Defence Academy (USDA), Gilbert Claes. The USDA is a consolidation of highly qualified and internationally recognised self-defence instructors who are experienced in different martial art styles and systems. It is assembled from the best basics, techniques and skills from Kung Fu, American Kenpo Karate, Kickboxing, Tai Chi, Grappling and Chin Na. This style of martial art is based on reality, diversity, individual tailoring, logic and attitude. I obtained my 1st degree black belt within the USDA in Pak Loong Self Defense Kenpo in September 2005.
Discovering Tai Chi
Because, I wanted students, both adults and children, to have a better insight and understanding of the martial art. I enrolled myself on a City & Guilds teaching course in 2001. I wanted some pointers on how/to pass on my martial arts knowledge in a simpler and more understandable way.
After practising Kenpo for 31 years, in October 2012, I took the decision Investigate Tai Chi. Therefore, I started to study Tai chi under the supervision of Raymond Reid and Steve Renouf. I wanted to further my martial arts knowledge. For 5 years, I trained extensively in Tai Chi 4 to 5 times a week. I have become very passionate about Tai Chi. Although I have gained so much knowledge, I know there is still so much more for me to learn.
The beauty about any martial art, Tai Chi included, is that you never become a master, reaching black belt or instructor status is only the start of the discovery journey.
I now feel that it’s time for me to take other people with me on the Tai Chi Qigong learning journey. Time to pass on the knowledge I have gathered over the years and share it with others.
So if you would like to join me on a fun leaning journey in Tai Chi, come and watch a class, or call me or message me on Facebook.
